Right-handed pitcher Chris Martin, who will turn 40 in the middle of the 2026 season, is re-signing with the Texas Rangers on a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The club has yet to confirm the deal, which is pending a physical.
Martin, who spent 26 games with the Dodgers after they acquired him from the Chicago Cubs in 2022, spent last season with the Rangers, holding a 2.98 across 42.1 innings as a reliever.

Martin struggled to stay healthy in the second half of the season, landing on the IL multiple times due to shoulder fatigue, calf strains and thoracic outlet syndrome, which ultimately ended his season. He appeared in just 9.2 innings after the All-Star break.
Despite his age, Martin has been a consistent threat on the mound, holding a 2.60 ERA from 2022-25 according to MLB.com. His arsenal of pitches is wide, featuring a four-seam fastball, cutter, splitter, sinker and sweeper.

Martin’s baseball journey is a long one. He was a standout pitcher at Arlington High School and wasa originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2005. However, a torn labrum in his shoulder kept him out of baseball, and Martin began working in a warehouse.
After three years, Martin felt strong enough to return to baseball, pitching for the Grand Prairie AirHogs in 2010 before the Boston Red Sox signed him to a minor league deal.
After being traded to the Rockies, Martin made his long-awaited MLB debut for the Rockies in 2014. He struggled on the Rockies and the New York Yankees the following year, and played in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball for two seasons to keep his career alive.
Since the Rangers signed him ahead of the 2018 season, Martin has proven his worth for several clubs, pitching for the Rangers, Braves, Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox.
Martin held a 1.46 ERA during his brief stint with the Dodgers, earning a 3-1 record as a reliever.
