The Cardinals acquired Bruihl from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations. The deal was announced earlier this week.
The 28-year-old from Petaluma, California, started his professional career with the Dodgers. He signed with the Dodgers as an undrafted free agent in the summer of 2017. Bruihl was assigned to the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League the following season to begin his professional career.
At the start of the 2019 season, Bruihl was with the Dodger High-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Two years after that, the season he made his Major League debut, he started that season with the team’s Double-A Tulsa Drillers. In early August of 2021, the Dodgers selected Bruihl’s contract and promoted him to their Major League roster.
The following season, Bruihl split his time between the majors and minors. He pitched in 24 games for Oklahoma City, where he tallied a 3-1 record and a 3.56 ERA. As for his time in the majors, he played in 24 games for the Dodgers, where he tallied a 1-1 record and 3.80 ERA.
In two-plus seasons in Dodger blue, Bruihl recorded a 3.65 ERA, 116 ERA+, 1.200 WHIP, 4.47 FIP and 43 strikeouts in 66.2 innings of work in 65 games.
Prior to the 2023 MLB trade deadline, the Dodgers dealt Bruihl to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for cash considerations.

It’s been quite the roller coaster for Bruihl this offseason alone. He started the offseason with the Toronto Blue Jays but was bumped off the roster after they signed right-hander Tyler Rogers in December.
Following that transaction, the Guardians sent some cash to the American League champions to snag Bruihl but was designated for assignment three days kater when they signed Shawn Armstrong.
While the southpaw is in St. Louis, his role with the team is unclear.
