Former Dodgers Reliever Traded to Mariners

The Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a deal Friday sending former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Yimi García from Canada to the Pacific Northwest, the clubs confirmed on Friday.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan was the first to break the news.

Outfielder Jonatan Clase and minor league catcher Jacob Sharp are going to the Jays in the deal.

García was in his third season with the Blue Jays. He signed a two-year, $11 million deal with Toronto that has now grown by $6 million because he has pitched in enough games to vest a performance bonus. He also picked up an additional $1 million of incentives in years one and two of the contract, ultimately turning it into a three-year, $18 million contract.

The reliever is considered a rental and will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Seattle’s acquisition of Garcia comes on the heels of a big move that brought slugging outfielder Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays to Seattle nearly 24 hours earlier.

Since debuting in 2014, García has a career 3.54 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 26 saves, and 424 strikeouts to 92 walks over 389.1 innings.
