Freddie Freeman Sends Bold Message on Future Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman said he believes the next generation of Dodger baseball will surpass the current one.

“If you have egos, that’s only going to complicate things,” Freeman said. “It’s a testament to Andrew and Brandon Gomes to go out and find the right guys who will fit into the puzzle. You can have superstars and sometimes you don’t get along. But when you see everyone here, right when you get to the doors, it just drops.

“We have created a beautiful thing around here. It’s fun to be a part of it. Young guys see it, and it makes them better. The next generation of Dodger baseball that we get to watch is going to be even better than ours.”

Freeman’s statement is a bold one to make, as the Dodgers have dominated baseball over the past couple of years, and have had control over the NL West for almost 15 years. On top of their back-to-back World Series over the past couple of years, the Dodgers have made the postseason 13 seasons in a row, winning the division 12 times in that stretch.

Who Will be in the Dodgers’ Next Generation?

While it’s impossible to predict who the Dodgers will eventually sign or trade for in the “next generation” Freeeman talks about, LA’s prospects are more than enough reason to get excited.

The Dodgers currently have five prospects in MLB’s Top 100, peaking as high as No. 15. Additionally, The Athletic’s Keith Law ranks the Dodgers’ farm system as the second best in MLB — only trailing the Milwaukee Brewers.

“The Dodgers are the best at what they do. Fans of other teams can complain all day about the money the team spends on the major-league roster, but the Dodgers do back it up with the old-school stuff that you should respect, even if you don’t like it: They scout, heavily, and they do individual development work with their players — especially hitters — that is the best in the sport,” Law wrote.

The Dodgers have done a fantastic job building the team they have through free agency, trade, and development, and they’re sure to continue using the same winning formula in the future. With the current culture in the clubhouse established and the leadership to back up a team, LA is sure to be competitive for several years to come.
