Garrett Crochet’s Requests ‘Stunned’ GMs, Per Report; Are Dodgers Out?

Garrett Crochet has been the No. 1 target for several teams looking to add a game-changing starting pitcher, but he revealed some alarming news that has general managers hesitating to strike a deal with the league’s worst team.

Crochet told reporters he plans to pitch through the end of the regular season and skip a potential playoff run with a new team unless he receives a contract extension. The statement left GMs around the league stunned.

“Why,” one GM asked, “would I want to get a guy who doesn’t want to pitch in the playoffs?”

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the money to sign Crochet to an extension. His ask is similar to that of Tyler Glasnow, who wanted an extension to waive his no-trade clause. The difference between the two is that Crochet doesn’t have playoff experience.

An extension would give Crochet job security. He has endured a couple of injuries throughout his career that would hinder his potential extension offers if he were to get hurt again before signing with a new team. He’s only making $800,000 and deserves a payday after what he’s done this season.

Los Angeles shouldn’t be considered completely out but Crochet is unproven beyond the regular season and has only been with the White Sox, a team that has been in the cellar without an inning of playoff baseball.

Call him greedy, but it sounds more like Crochet is simply scared of going somewhere new and potentially getting hurt. He’s also never been traded before. He was drafted by Chicago in 2020 and has only worn black and white. It’s all unchartered waters for the lefty, but the Dodgers are best suited to make a run at him ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

  1. I think Crochet sounds like a risky bet in a number of ways. Besides his contract demands he’s over his previous limit of innings and could be done at any time. I hope the Dodgers don’t go for him.

  2. Imagine normal people telling their boss they’re sitting out the Holliday season because they did enough work from January to September.

  3. I have bad vibes about this guy, Crochet. Sure he’s been great for half a season, he is still unproven for the long haul, and not for the asking price he and Chicago are looking for. He can also be a detriment to the clubhouse chemistry which the mentality is to win the WS. The culture in the clubhouse could be divided by this attitude.

    1. Could not agree more. When this jerk said he would NOT pitch in the post season unless he was given a contract extension, it was clear it was time to move on. What the Dodgers don’t need is someone who appears to care less about winning a title and more about his worth, it is time to move on. On the club house issue, completely agree. Why would you bring someone in who is not there for the long haul. THIS IS NOT A TEAM GUY. THIS IS A ME FIRST GUY.

    2. Definitely get the bad vibes thing. I also get bad vibes about an offense that has 15 strikeouts in a 5 – 0 loss, followed by 16 strikeouts in a 5 run blown lead loss to the despicable Astr*s. There’s a lot that needs to be figured out about this team and their pathetic 12 – 13 record since they went 50 – 31 in the first half of the season. Bring on the whiners about injuries and the Dave Roberts fan boys, but this team is in way more trouble than a starter with questionable durability will solve.

  4. Too many question marks in the current lineup to sign on what appears to be a problem child. We have a batting order struggling to put runs on the scoreboard. Players sitting on the Injured List that maybe shouldn’t be there. A field manager that doesn’t know how to manage a pitching staff. 3 MVPs that have different issues that have made each of their performances questionable, Freddie’s son and other, obvious problems not disclosed, Mookie’s broken hand, his inability to throw accurately from the shortstop position and the effect it’s having on his batting, and then Shohei who is under investigation for gambling, and who knows what else is going on behind the scenes with his life. His average has dipped, strike outs are increasing and is he pushing himself to the brink of collapse??? No, we don’t need Crochet. We need some fresh air, fresh management and a realignment of team protocols and focus. Right now, the Dodgers are just a bunch of bobbleheads, not working together, with very low energy, and zero game plan.
