Justin Wrobleski Gets ‘Excited’ Facing MLB’s Best

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski had yet another fantastic outing Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

He hurled six scoreless innings against one of the best teams in the league, allowing just three hits and logging five strikeouts in his outing. Opposing starter Drew Rasmussen was just as good, though, only allowing a single run through seven innings.

Wrobleski earned a win for his performance, and expressed his admiration for his opponent following the game.

“Anytime you get to face one of the guys that’s one of the top guys in the league – and I think he is that right now – I think he’s a really, really good pitcher – you kind of get excited,” Wrobleski said. “And I love the competition, trying to go out there and match zeros with guys like that. So, yeah, it was a really good time, and he pitched really well too.”

Rasmussen has certainly been one of the better pitchers in the American League this season, as he has just a 2.59 ERA through 14 starts, as well as 84 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched so far.

How Has Justin Wrobleski Pitched This Season?

Through 13 appearances for the Dodgers—12 of which were starts—Wrobleski has a 2.72 ERA through 79.1 innings pitched. After starting slow in terms of strikeouts, Wrobleski has turned up the heat in his last few outings and has 50 on the season.

He made his first start of the season in April, his best month of the year so far, allowing just two earned runs through 26 innings pitched. The left-hander had a rough go in his outing prior to Tuesday’s win, allowing four runs, but hasn’t allowed a run in any of the other 12 innings he’s pitched since the start of June.

Wrobleski has taken a huge step up since joining the rotation from the bullpen, and the Dodgers will hope he can continue producing numbers like this all season.

The southpaw’s next start is likely to come next week against the Minnesota Twins, when the Dodgers begin a nine-game road trip.

How did you feel about Justin Wrobleski’s performance yesterday? What about for the whole season?
