Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy is on track for his first All-Star appearance since 2021, and bringing his kids to the Midsummer Classic is fueling his push.
Muncy’s first child was born in July 2021 after the All-Star Game, and he has had two more children since.
“I’ve never cared about personal goals, but both my All-Star Games came before my kids,” Muncy said. “They’re old enough to understand how special it is. Coming into this year, I was kind of just like, ‘Man, I’d really like to experience at least one All-Star Game with my kids.’ For them to go down on the field, wear the uniform, kind of just see everything that goes on with it and just see how special it is.”
Muncy is a clear favorite to return to the All-Star Game as the starting third baseman this season, as he currently leads all NL third basemen with 941,218 votes. The next closest player at his position is the Philadelphia Phillies’ Alec Bohm, who has 386,425 votes.
If he makes the All-Star Game as a starter, Muncy will break a nearly 50-year-long drought for the Dodgers. He would be the first Dodger third baseman to start the All-Star Game since Ron Cey did in 1977.

Does Max Muncy Deserve an All-Star Selection?
The third baseman pool in the National League is rather shallow this year, as regular All-Stars like Manny Machado and Alex Bregman are having down years, but Muncy would likely be deserving even if his competition played their best baseball all year.
Muncy has torn the cover off of the ball in 2026, posting a .887 OPS through his 69 games this season. That would be his highest finish since 2021—his last All-Star selection.
He also leads the team with 16 homers, and has 28 RBIs to go with that figure.
The veteran infielder has made two All-Star Games with the Dodgers before, serving as a reserve first baseman in 2019 and the starting designated hitter in 2021.
He’s sure to secure his spot as the starter if he continues producing how he has so far, but even if he doesn’t, he’ll still be more than qualified for the spot.
