Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas spoke on his emotions throughout the 2026 season during Sunday’s win over the Giants.
Rojas is likely to retire at the end of this season, putting an end to a 13-year MLB career.
“Really emotional, to be honest with you guys” Rojas said on how he felt in the first inning. “This might be my last one, and it actually hit me today when I was in the locker room.
“…This could be it. I never take it for granted. The opportunity to wear this uniform for the last four years has been one of the best things that have happened in my life, in my career. I tried throughout the whole year not to be a distraction with this because it’s not about me, it’s about the team.
“…I want to go on my own terms, that’s something I’ve always dreamed about. It’s an emotional day.”
Is Miguel Rojas’ Retirement a Sure Thing?
Rojas revealed his retirement at the end of the 2026 season towards the end of 2025, but he has second guessed his decision a couple of times during the 2026 season.
He definitely has the ability to remain in MLB for at least one more season, as he hovered around league average with a bat and graded well above average with the glove for the majority of the season, but he wants to be with his family in his retirement.
“He asks me, did you watch me play?” Rojas said of his son, Aaron. “I say yes, but I want to be there for him. That’s what my parents did for me
“I think it’s time. I know your time in the game is too short. But at the end of the day, I want to make sure I’m there for him, too.”
What WIll Miguel Rojas Do After Retiring?
Rojas is already set to take on a player development role if he retires at the end of the year, as the Dodgers offered him a job after his retirement at the end of the season.
Additionally, Rojas previously stated his willingness to manage in MLB at some point during his life, and manager Dave Roberts believes he’d be a great fit for any MLB clubhouse.
“I think he’ll manage in the big leagues,” Roberts said. “Interestingly enough, I think that moment that he had will actually help not just the hiring process, I think it’ll more importantly help the day-to-day role as a manager. You performed in a big moment and you can relate to coming off the bench and being there and being a champion. I think the players respect that.”
Rojas’ focus won’t be on his life after his MLB career, though, as he and the Dodgers still have 11 games to win before the end of the season. The veteran, as well as the rest of the team, have their sights set on a historic three-peat, and will turn their full attention towards the postseason after Sunday’s win.
