Miguel Rojas Suddenly Leaves NLDS Game 3 With Injury

Los Angeles Dodgers veteran Miguel Rojas left Game 3 of the National League Division Series with an injury on Tuesday.

Rojas, who got the start at second base, was seen tending to his lower back in the dugout after leaving in the top of the eighth inning.

How did Miguel Rojas get hurt?

The exact nature of Rojas’ injury hasn’t been disclosed, but it appeared he sustained it while swinging.

Later reporting, though, indicated it may have started while he was playing a ground ball in the fifth inning, only to flare up during his at-bat.

Tommy Edman came in to replace Rojas and take the at-bat.

He also came in at second base for Rojas.

How had Miguel Rojas been playing?

Up until that point, Rojas hadn’t made an impact at the plate.

He was 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

His replacement, Edman, followed up Rojas’ exit with a pop-up on the first pitch he saw.

What does this mean for the Dodgers?

Rojas’ exit isn’t ideal for the Dodgers, who have seen the veteran come through at clutch times, most notably Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.

Rojas, 37, is considering retirement after this season; he said earlier on Tuesday he has roughly 60% odds of retiring, while he’s leaning 40% toward returning for another season.

If Rojas, who also recently became a U.S. citizen, has to miss time, it could open the door for more playing time for someone like the speedster Hyeseong Kim, who narrowly made the Dodgers’ NLDS roster but who has plenty of fans who want to see him perform well.

This is still conjecture, though, as we will likely hear more after the game about what Rojas’ injury is and how long, if at all, it will keep him sidelined.

Even if he’s hurt, though, expect Rojas to remain a fixture in the clubhouse and the dugout, as his leadership and baseball savvy are valued by the Dodgers.

Skills like those are why many believe Rojas has a future as an MLB manager when he hangs up his spikes, whether that’s after this season or next.
