Miguel Rojas to Join Dodgers in Player Development Role After 2026 Season

Although the offseason has been a bit quiet for the Los Angeles Dodgers thus far, some news broke on Wednesday that had the fan base overly joyful.

It was reported by various outlets that World Series hero Miguel Rojas had re-signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a one-year deal worth $5.5 million. This will be the final year of what’s been a very respectable MLB career.

Rojas, set to turn 37 years of age next year, had told Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain that he intended to play one more year — ideally with the Dodgers — before ending his time in the big leagues.

As fate would have it, the two parties agreed to a deal, and the man they call “Miggy Ro” will be back in the clubhouse for all intents and purposes functioning as a player-coach.

Speaking of which, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times also reported that once Rojas finishes next season, he will stay with the organization as a player development coach.

It makes all the sense in the world for Rojas to stay on with the franchise once his playing days end. Rojas is among the most respected players in the clubhouse. A true team leader, he’s often been seen addressing the team with speeches during postgame moments.

A utility player that’s had to grind for everything in his career, Rojas is emblematic of a guy who understands the bigger picture. Being a team-first player has always been his mantra, and that sort of selflessness is arguably the most defining characteristic of the star-studded Dodgers.

The moment in which he hit the game-tying home run versus the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 of the World Series will forever be etched into Dodgers lore. There’s a real case to be made it’s the most significant homer in the history of the illustrious franchise.

More than anything, as he’s echoed in various interviews, Rojas will be motivated by contributing to a possible three-peat which would be the first achieved by any MLB club since the New York Yankees did it a quarter century ago.
