MLB Insider Provides Update on Dodgers’ Pursuit of Top Relievers
Tanner Scott had his strongest season on the mound since the shortened 2020 season in 2024. However, the free agent relief pitcher has yet to ink a deal this offseason.
Scott found himself part of a trade deadline transaction in July. The Miami Marlins traded Scott alongside right-handed pitcher Bryan Hoeing to the Padres. The Marlins acquired right-handed pitcher Adam Mazur, second baseman Jay Beshears, left-handed pitcher Robby Snelling, and third baseman Graham Pauley.

The 2024 National League All-Star served a vital role in the Padres’ improvement in the second half of the season. Through the NL Division Series, Scott held the Los Angeles Dodgers scoreless and allowed only two hits in five appearances.
Scott was named the NL Reliever of the Month in July. With the Marlins, Scott posted a 6-5 record while recording a career-best 1.18 ERA.
After joining the Padres, Scott posted a 3-1 record while recording a 2.73 ERA and 31 strikeouts across 28 appearances.
At this point, it is unlikely that Scott will return to San Diego. There are several teams interested in the southpaw reliever, including the Los Angeles Dodgers.
MLB insider Alden Gonzalez recently said the Dodgers may consider targeting Scott if his market were to drop.
“They’ll be there if Tanner Scott’s market falls and they can be opportunistic on another high-leverage arm,” Gonzalez wrote. “They just don’t need to force anything here. And given how Andrew Friedman has historically approached the bullpen market, they probably won’t.”
Following the Dodgers’ Roki Sasaki addition, all focus can now shift to Scott, or another high-leverage arm.
Los Angeles already has six high-leverage relievers in their bullpen, but could always benefit from additional reinforcements.
