Ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers beating the Toronto Blue Jays in one of the most exciting World Series battles in recent memory, there was a bit of controversy uncovered dealing with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.
After attending Game 4 of the Fall Classic at Dodger Stadium, the prince and his wife, Los Angeles native Meghan Markle, were seen in the first row behind home plate donning Dodgers hats.
Although this seems to be a normal thing to do for a guest of Dodgers ownership (and during the World Series, no less), Prince Harry received criticism from those that feel he should have been supporting Canada’s MLB representation as they are a member of the modern Commonwealth of Nations that grew out of the former British Empire.

“Well, firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it,” Prince Harry said via CTV News.
“Secondly, I was under duress,” he said. “There wasn’t much choice. I was invited to the L.A. Dodgers box or the dugout by the owner himself. So, I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do.”
The Duke of Sussex made sure to put on a Blue Jays hat later in the interview to reaffirm his support of Canada. He later delivered a speech at the 17th annual True Patriot Love Foundation National Tribute Dinner and brought more comedy to the situation, while taking a shot at another recent World Series opponent of the Dodgers.
“I am truly sorry for wearing a Dodgers hat. No excuses, but there were two reasons for wearing it,” Prince Harry said. “First, our host that night was the owner of the Dodgers and I believed it was the polite thing to do. Second, the 900,000-watt floodlights shining down on an ever-increasing bald spot.
“Given that level of scrutiny, I think I’d even have worn a Yankees cap. Well, maybe not a Yankees cap, but you get my dilemma.”
