Shohei Ohtani Surprises Dodgers With Gift Ahead of Opening Day

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani gifted members of the team something special before Opening Day’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

According to The Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett, Ohtani gifted the entire team a Seiko watch, along with a note that read “Let’s get a three-peat.”

Additionally, manager Dave Roberts included a bottle of Traveller whiskey, per ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez.

Ohtani and Seiko unveiled a collaboration over the offseason, making his watch gifts make all of the sense in the world. The watch is worth $4,000, according to Gonzalez.

Dodgers second baseman Miguel Rojas revealed additional details regarding the gift during warm-ups.

“He gave me a truly magnificent watch. He is a wonderful human being, both on and off the field. I will cherish it for the rest of my life as a memento—a reminder that ‘the world’s greatest player gave me a watch at the start of the 2026 season,'” Rojas said, per Masata Kotani via an X post in Japanese.

“Included with it was a short note that read: ‘Let’s go for the three-peat.’ That is the mentality shared by everyone in this clubhouse. It won’t be an easy road, but we will take on this challenge with a sense of responsibility, staying true to who we are.”

Ohtani’s big upcoming season

Ohtani is set to enter the season at the peak of his powers as a two-way star, being healthy when it comes to pitching and hitting, with experience to boot.

He is a two-time champion and a multi-time MVP and All-Star. Having seen it all at this point, he has the tools and knowledge to have a season for the ages, even by his own standards.

Despite all of his success — and there is a lot — Ohtani is still highly regarded as a teammate by everyone on the roster, including the coaching staff.

His work ethic, easygoing mannerisms, and overall humility are just as much a driving force as his highly competitive nature.

Health permitting, the Dodgers and Ohtani will indeed achieve the history that he wants and capture their third straight title, while the Japanese sensation possibly added the elusive Cy-Young award to his trophy cabinet.
