Teoscar Hernandez Expected to Re-Sign With Dodgers in Free Agency: Report

The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to re-sign Teoscar Hernández this offseason, per David Vassegh of AM570 radio.

“My understanding, talking to people around the league, they expect Teoscar Hernández to re-sign with the Dodgers,” Vassegh said Wednesday on AM570 radio. “Many people around the league expect Teoscar Hernández and the Dodgers to find their way back to each other, and my understanding is the Dodgers and Teoscar are very much engaged, trying to nail the final details of a contract.

“So, things are looking good for Teoscar Hernández and the Dodgers to be back together.”

Hernández had a breakout season in his first year with the Dodgers in 2024. The 32-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers last offseason, as his market didn’t come together the way he hoped. So, Hernández came to Los Angeles hoping to increase his value, and he did just that.

Hernández hit .272 with a career-high 33 home runs and 99 runs batted in. He made the All-Star game, won the Home Run Derby, and won a Silver Slugger award, all while helping L.A. reach the postseason and win the World Series.

Hernández quickly became a fan favorite in Los Angeles, winning over the hearts of the L.A. fans with his grit, positive attitude, and fun-loving personality. He also came up in big moments throughout the year, including in October, when he hit .250 with three home runs and an OPS of .750.

While nothing has been finalized yet, any contract with Hernández will certainly be a multiyear deal. Hernández rejected the qualifying offer from the Dodgers, which would have paid him $21 million for one season.

The Athletic predicted Hernández to sign a three-year, $69 million deal heading into the offseason. Spotrac has projected a three-year, $71 million deal.

Hernández re-signing with the Dodgers has made sense all offseason, as the outfielder didn’t hide his intentions in wanting to stay in Los Angeles beyond this season.

“My hopes are really high,” Hernández said last month regarding re-signing with the Dodgers. “Like I’ve said before, the Dodgers are the priority obviously. I’m going to do everything in my power to come back.”

Vassegh reports the two sides are close to finalizing a contract. A deal with Hernández would almost certainly take the Dodgers out of the Juan Soto sweepstakes.

  1. Right-o! Soto is a great talent, it’s true, but I’ll take the players that got us over the hump every time. And… I don’t know this, but I don’t know that Soto belongs in the clubhouse, I doubt he’d be a good fit.

  2. We ARE NOT signing Soto. He is only good to DH and we have the best DH in baseball! He is a defensive liability. We just need Teo back and maybe grab Santander! imagine pitching to that lineup
    1. Ohtani
    2. Betts
    3. Freeman
    4.Santander
    5. Teo
    6.Will Smith
    7.Muncy
    8. Edmond
    9.Lux or whoever!!!

  3. Teo produced big time and was well liked by teammates and fans. Honestly, with better starting pitching the current crew can repeat. If Dodgers sign Soto, we instantly become the most hated team since the 1920s Yankees.
