Friday is Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, and there’s a lot going on in Los Angeles this weekend.
It’s also Father’s Day on Sunday, so call make sure you find time to call your dad if you’re not already taking him to see the Dodgers take on the Baltimore Orioles.

Juneteenth in Culver City
When: Noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 20
Where: Veterans Memorial Park Field, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City, CA 90230

“The free, family-friendly event will bring the community together for live performances, music, food, family activities, and reflections on the history and significance of Juneteenth,” organizers wrote on the city’s website. “The program will include ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ welcome remarks from Culver City officials and invited dignitaries, live dance and music performances, a DJ, and a brief program highlighting Juneteenth history.”
Pasadena Juneteenth Celebration
When: 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 20
Where: Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101
Pasadena is joining with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to commemorate Juneteenth.
“The Juneteenth Celebration and NAACP 5th Annual Roller Jam will feature FREE family-friendly activities, arts and crafts by Armory Center for the Arts, a live DJ, and community resources for all to enjoy,” event organizers wrote on the city’s website. “Roller skates can be loaned out for free, and food will be available for purchase.”

Check out the Compton Film Festival this weekend, “an organization dedicated to cultivating and promoting the art and science of film, with a focus on education, community engagement, and celebrating diverse voices within the cinematic landscape,” organizers wrote.
Chocolate and Art Show Los Angeles
