We’re truly in the dog days of summer, and while everyone is focused on beating the heat, there’s still a ton going on in Southern California.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are out of town, but Dodger Stadium will screen a classic baseball film.
Plus, a pop star takes over SoFi Stadium and an arts and culture event celebrates the LA River.
Here’s what’s going on Aug. 8 and 9.
‘The Sandlot’ at Dodger Stadium
When: Saturday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m.

If this Dodgers road trip has you missing the crack of a bat at Blue Heaven on Earth, you’re in luck.
The Dodgers are screening the baseball classic “The Sandlot” Saturday night, and fans can purchase tickets to watch the film in a baseball cathedral.
“Before the screening, expect photo ops, pressbox tours, speciality concessions and some pitching in the bullpens,” reports TimeOut LA.
Tickets are $40 apiece.
Ed Sheeran at SoFi Stadium
When: Saturday, Aug. 8, at 5:30 p.m.
Where: SoFi Stadium, 1001 S. Stadium Dr., Inglewood, CA 90301
The British hitmaker known for songs like “Shape of You,” “Shivers” and “Perfect” is bringing his Loop Tour of North America to Inglewood Saturday evening.
He’ll be joined by supporting acts Myles Smith, Sigrid and Aaron Rowe.
RiverFest
When: Sunday, Aug. 9, from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Where: LA State Historic Park, 1315 N. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90012
Friends of the Los Angeles River is hosting the fifth annual RiverFest on Sunday, an event they describe as “a FREE open-air environmental arts and community festival celebrating the culture, history, and people that shape the LA River.”
“This year’s RiverFest will feature lots of local artists, thrilling live performances, an environmental art gallery and a bustling marketplace. We’ll also have some new interactive eco-activities for the whole family and delicious food from some of L.A.’s best food trucks,” FOLAR wrote on the event website. “So grab your favorite Angelenos and come celebrate with us!”
As FOLAR mentioned, general admission tickets are free — though the suggested donation is $5 — and VIP tickets are available for $120. They include VIP parking, expedited check-in, access to a VIP area with seats and tables, five raffle tickets and more.
Parking otherwise is $25, though LA State Historic Park is very accessible by public transit, with the Metro Chinatown station very near to the park.
