Tyler Glasnow Provides Major Injury Update on Elbow, Timeline to Return to Dodgers

While the majority of the Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing to take on the New York Yankees in the World Series starting on Friday, Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow has no other option than to prepare for next season. Though Glasnow can support his teammates during the World Series, he will not get the opportunity to play again until spring training.

Glasnow has been out since August, when inflammation in his elbow sent him back to the injured list for the second time this season. The Dodgers believed Glasnow would be able to come back for the postseason, but his elbow did not heal enough. When they felt that Glasnow would not be able to heal in time, they ruled him out for the season in mid-September.

Though Glasnow has been limited to the sidelines, he did say his elbow is much better.

“I just got re-imaged recently and I haven’t thrown in a month and it looks like it’s fully healed … I’m just excited that I’ll be good to go for next year,” Glasnow said on Foul Territory.

Glasnow also provided a more concrete update on what his offseason will look like.

“It’s healed fast and it looks really good,” Glasnow said of his elbow. “The only thing I’ll change this offseason is I think I’ll keep my arm going. I’ll do plyos starting in November and throw twice a week probably the entire offseason. As I ramp up to get back into spring in December, January, February then I’ll start getting back into a normal thing. I don’t think I’m going to take a long time off or a couple months off of throwing this year. I’m going to just keep going and try to get my tissue used to that workload.”

The 31-year-old will instead work to stay healthier heading into his second season with the Dodgers. Glasnow had a great season for the Dodgers when healthy — beginning the year as the team’s Opening Day starter — but was unable to go come postseason. During the regular season, he did start a career-high 22 games with a 3.49 ERA and 168 strikeouts, but injuries once again got to him at the most important part of the season.

    1. That is a good call! We have plenty of good relievers. We also have a couple IL returnees to maybe work long relief (May, Gonsolin) for awhile. Yep, keep him primed for October.

  1. Yes to a strict pitch limit. Also, 6-man rotation. Also, an IL-stint every once in a while. The goal is to have him pitch in the post-season.
