What Did the Dodgers Accomplish at MLB Winter Meetings?

The Winter Meetings are now over, and the Los Angeles Dodgers made plenty of waves with their moves during their few days in Orlando.

The Dodgers entered the Winter Meetings with a few different needs, and left them with one fewer issue to think about this offseason.

From trade rumors to free agency signings, we looked at some of the Dodgers’ biggest developments at the Winter Meetings.

The Dodgers Sign Closer Edwin Diaz

The Dodgers needed a high-leverage relief arm after their bullpen signings from last offseason flopped, and have found a solid answer for their ‘pen in Diaz.

LA signed the 31-year-old to a three-year, $69 million deal on Tuesday, and he will be the Dodgers’ new closer in the upcoming season. Diaz had a 1.63 ERA in 2025, and recorded 28 saves in 31 opportunities throughout the season.

Diaz is an MLB-proven arm and will be an invaluable asset to the Dodgers’ relief core.

Tarik Skubal Trade Rumors

American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal’s name has been thrown around over the last couple of months, as he is only under the Detroit Tigers’ control for one more year and doesn’t seem close to signing an extension.

The Dodgers, understandably, are after the superstar, and the Tigers reportedly held serious talks about their ace during the Winter Meetings.“

They surprised teams by engaging in serious talks, and were intrigued by the Dodgers’ potential package of prospects, triggering trade rumor,” Nightengale wrote.

The Dodgers have one of the deepest farm systems in MLB, and would definitely be able to form a package for Skubal, but whether or not they will is yet to be seen.

The Rule 5 Draft

Outside of the massive move the Dodgers pulled off and their links to one of the best pitchers in MLB, they had a fairly quiet time in Orlando.

They passed on their pick in the Rule 5 Draft, and none of their unprotected minor-leaguers left to an MLB teams for the season. In the minor-league portion of the Rule 5 Draft, left-hander Brandon Neck went to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Livan Reinoso went to the Miami Marlins and outfielder Edwin Sanchez went to the Houston Astros.
