Will Teoscar Hernández Return to Dodgers? MLB Insider Gives Answer

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially introduced Blake Snell after signing him to a five-year, $182 million deal. Though the Dodgers have already added an ace to their starting rotation, there are a slew of fan favorite free agents still on the market. One key player in the Dodgers’ postseason run that is currently a free agent is outfielder Teoscar Hernández.

Hernández declined the qualifying offer extended to him by the Dodgers, which was worth $21.05 million for the 2025 season. General manager Brandon Gomes said the Dodgers would talk to Hernández this winter, but thus far, nothing has transpired.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale offered some insight on whether Hernández will return to the Dodgers in a conversation with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain.

“Yeah, they’re probably letting him look around and say, ‘Okay, if someone blows us away, fine,'” Nightengale said. “Usually, the Dodgers set a mark and say, ‘Okay, if you’re willing to sign for this, we’ll do it. Otherwise, we’ll turn our attention somewhere else.’

“I think Teoscar Hernández comes back. He loved playing with the Dodgers, and you saw during the postseason, during the parade, everybody raved about what a great teammate he was. So, I think Teoscar Hernández is back, and then you kind of fill in from there. But, you know, if Teoscar Hernández decides not to come back, they’ll grab someone else. There’s certainly enough outfielders out there. They do have some depth with the returning guys they have.”

Hernández had a career-year in his first season with the Dodgers. In 2024 alone, Hernández was named an All-Star, became the first Dodger to win the Home Run Derby, and hit a career-high 33 home runs. He also won a World Series ring.

Hernández quickly emerged as a fan favorite and embraced the identity of the Dodgers clubhouse. Hernández expressed his desire to return to the Dodgers time and time again throughout the season.

As Dodgers fans gathered at Chavez Ravine during the World Series parade, Hernández delivered a heartfelt and tearful speech.

“You guys made this dream come true. Thank you for making me a World Champion,” Hernández said. “That’s how much I care, how much I appreciate everything that this organization, these fans have given to me. When I show that kind of emotion, that’s when I truly feel it. I’ve been blessed to be here.”

Along with talent, clubhouse culture is an important quality in championship teams — and Hernández contributes to both aspects.
