Yankees 2024 Infielder Slams Dodgers for ‘Disrespectful’ Trash Talk After World Series

Former New York Yankees infielder Jon Berti didn’t appreciate how the Los Angeles Dodgers spoke about his old team after winning the World Series.

Berti, who recently signed a one-year deal to play for the Chicago Cubs this season, addressed what he felt was disrespectful trash talk during an interview on Wednesday.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a World Series-winning team talk as badly as they did about the World Series-losing team,” Berti said on Foul Territory. “It felt like we were being disrespected to the point of we didn’t even belong in the World Series.”

The Dodgers beat the Yankees in five games even though the Yankees led 5-0 at one point during Game 5. A fifth-inning implosion led to five Dodger runs en route to the series-clinching victory.

“We won a lot of games last year. We won our division,” Berti said. “We went and took care of Kansas City and took care of Cleveland. So we deserved to be there, unfortunately, we didn’t perform at our best.”

The Dodgers proved to be too much for the Yankees despite New York winning Game 4 to avoid a sweep.

“Unfortunately we ran into a team that played better than us in a seven-game series and they deserved to win,” Berti said. “So I guess they can say whatever they want at this point.”

Playes like Joe Kelly and Miguel Rojas have been outspoken since winning the title. The reliever called the matchup a “mismatch from the get-go” and the utility infielder said the Dodgers were prepared to face a team that played “lazy defense” and struggled with fundamentals.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone has popped off about the some of the comments made by Dodgers players this offseason.

“They won,” Boone told WFAN’s Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata. “They had that right. A couple of people like saying some things. It’s like, ‘See what you did this year?’ Like, it wasn’t the Freddie Freemans and Shoheis and Mookies popping off. It was some others. They won the World Series. We didn’t play our best, and they’re flying high right now, so we’ll try to get back to that stage and hopefully punch through.”

As for Berti, he slashed .182/.250/.182 in 11 postseason at-bats, managing a run in Game 4 of the ALCS.

He was left off the World Series roster.

  1. The way the Yankees played in that crucial 5th inning, maybe they didn’t belong… The Yankees’ folded under pressure. The Dodgers didn’t. Case closed! BRUH!
