Yankees Calling Up Former Dodgers Top Prospect Acquired in Offseason Trade

The New York Yankees are calling up top infield prospect Jorbit Vivas to make his major league debut, per Andy Martino of SNY. Vivas, 23, was traded to the Yankees from the Los Angeles Dodgers this past offseason. Vivas was sent with left-handed pitcher Victor Gonzalez for shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney.

Vivas has had a great season in Triple-A, slashing .258/.404/.424 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 37 games. He’ll now get his first opportunity at the big league level with infielder J.D. Davis going on the injured list.

Vivas signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent out of Venezuela in 2017. He worked his way up the minor leagues and up the Dodgers’ top prospect ranks, ranking as high as No. 9 in 2022 per MLB Pipeline.

Vivas was added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster after the 2021 season to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft. However, after two seasons, they decided to send him to New York to clear room on the 40-man roster.

In return, they got Sweeney, who is currently the Dodgers’ No. 21 ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline. The 24-year-old is slashing .242/.328/.408 with 11 home runs, 18 doubles, and 55 RBIs in 85 games at Triple-A this season.
