Dodgers Rumors: Potential Trade Package for White Sox Star Luis Robert Revealed

The Los Angeles Dodgers need outfield help as the July 30 trade deadline inches ever closer.

Outside of Teoscar Hernández — who’s been one of the biggest steals of the offseason — the Dodgers have struggled to get consistent production out of the outfield.

Dodgers outfielders have accumulated a total of 2.2 fWAR this year, but Hernández has accumulated 2.0 fWAR by himself. The rest of the outfield has been a revolving door full of struggles.

Fortunately, one of baseball’s best young outfielders on the league’s worst team is available.

The Chicago White Sox are listening to offers on Luis Robert Jr., per Bob Nightengale of USA Today and others, and the Dodgers should be very interested.

While it’s been reported over the past few weeks that Robert was likely going to be available, Nightengale provided what a potential Robert package would look like — and it’s hefty.

Nightengale says the White Sox would want a package that’s “greater than what the Padres gave up for Juan Soto at the 2022 deadline.”

So, what did the Padres give up?

While acquiring Soto and Josh Bell, the Padres gave up:

  • Shortstop C.J. Abrams, who entered the year as the Padres’ No. 1 overall prospect.
  • Outfielder Robert Hassell III, the Padres’ No. 1 overall prospect at the time of the trade.
  • Outfielder James Wood, the Padres’ No. 3 prospect.
  • Left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who entered the year as the Padres’ No. 4 prospect.
  • Right-handed pitcher Jarlin Susana, the Padres’ No. 14 prospect.
  • First baseman Luke Voit.

So, in total, the Nationals got four top-five prospects, a top-15 pitching prospect, and a major league veteran.

The Dodgers would technically be able to top that package with a loaded farm system, but would it be worth it?

While Robert is one of baseball’s best outfielders when healthy, health is a big question mark for the 26-year-old.

Robert has only played over 100 games in one season, and this year, he’s played in just 12 after missing nearly two months with a hip injury.

The 2023 season was Robert’s best, when he slashed .264/.315/.542 with 38 home runs, 80 RBIs, and an OPS of .857 in 145 games. However, would that sample size of one full season be enough for the Dodgers to unload their farm system?

That remains to be seen, but based on the Dodgers’ history, it would be unlikely. If the Dodgers didn’t make the deal for Soto, they likely wouldn’t give up even more for Robert.

  1. WELL SAY IT AGAIN. THE NATIONALS’ 27-28 YEAR OLD LANE THOMAS IS A 5 TOOL PLAYER, WHO’S JUST COMING INTO HIS OWN, AND IS ON A RIDICULOUSLY LOW 1 YEAR CONTRACT. HE WILL BE A FA NEXT YEAR, SO RATHER THAN GIVE UP THE ‘FARM’ AS IN A LUIS ROBERT PKGE, WAIT TIL THE OFF SEASON. IF YOU WANT HIM NOW, LA HAS ENOUGH TO TRADE FOR HIM. OUTMAN, PAGES, GROVE, MILLER, TAYLOR, ETC. THOMAS GIVES LA A SOLID UPSIDE MLB PLAYER, AND COULD EASILY BE THE DODGERS’ CENTERFIELDER FOR THE NEXT 5-7 YEARS!

    1. Taylor has no trade value…perhaps he’ll pick it up in 2nd half, at least enuff to make at least a 50% dump of his 2025.
Miller WILL come back to bight us so keep him. As far as Pages….hmmm, give him another month, he just might be a diamond in the early ruff.
I like your player in CF but we’re not in trouble yet and looks like we can at least give it 30 days to look & see.
Right now, Outman is an unfortunately timed fail…maybe temp but maybe another Gregg Brock.
      All said IMHO

  2. No more prima donna superstars that ride the bench injured and strike out tons. Go with Vecchio’s idea and bring in an athletic, hungry, talented ballplayer for which Lane Thomas is. Or someone else like him.

  3. Do not give up on Pages. He is going to be a star. CT3 is expendable. Package him in a deal.

  4. Do not give up Miller. The rest are expendable, for Luis Robert, but not all of them, and there are some minor leaguers, including catching prospects and a pitcher or two, who could go. The deal would not include only MLB players. It would mostly be minor league prospects. Luis Robert is not worth as much in trade as Juan Soto. Soto is a much, much better hitter.
