Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Named Inaugural Resident of High-End Community in Hawaii

Shohei Ohtani has snagged a deal on a prime piece of real estate in Hawaii in exchange for being named the first resident of a new luxury community called Hapuna Estates.

The deal, brokered in exchange for his residency status, gives Ohtani a luxurious offseason home nestled in the Mauna Kea Resort. Ohtani will build a 5,000-square-foot home with picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean.

The Wall Street Journal was the first to report about Hawaii’s newest resident.

“I recently selected my lot in this new development, and I plan on building my home there in the near future that I will be able to enjoy for many years to come,” said Ohtani in a statement to the Journal.

The two-way superstar was gifted the plot of his choosing but construction costs are on him. The exact price tag hasn’t been disclosed, but lots in the neighborhood are starting at $4.9 million.

“It’s being done to his specs,” a spokesperson for the developer, led by West Point Investment Corp., confirmed to the outlet.

Ohtani’s enclave will consist of 14 custom single-family homes with an average price tag of $17.3 million. Ten of the 14 lots are on the Hapuna Golf Course, and all have ocean views.

Once it’s built, Ohtani will officially have somewhere to call home in the offseason, instead of a rented mansion in Los Angeles or an apartment in Tokyo.
