Bobby Miller, Kyle Hurt Taking Huge Steps in Recovery for Dodgers

The Dodgers got good news regarding two of their young pitchers – Bobby Miller and Kyle Hurt. Each pitcher was placed on the injured list in mid-April but could make a return relatively soon.

Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 10 with some shoulder discomfort. Initially, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated this could be a minimum stay on the injured list, but it’s been nearly two months since the injury.

Friday night, Miller made his third rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He went four innings and built himself up to 85 pitches. Roberts hinted that this could be Miller’s last rehab start, so Miller could make his Dodgers return as early as next week.

Hurt was placed on the 60-day IL on April 16 with shoulder inflammation. He also pitched on Friday night and recorded two outs in his appearance.

Hurt is a little further away than Miller. By definition, the earliest Hurt could come back is June 16. The Dodgers are notoriously cautious when activating injured players. So, it’s reasonable that they might delay him until later in the season.

If and when Miller makes his return, the Dodgers will have to answer some questions regarding their rotation. They already have five starters on the roster, so reports are that they will officially go to a six-man rotation with Miller coming back.
