Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts responded to the San Diego Padres owner José E. Feliciano’s comments regarding the franchise and dinosaurs.
Padres owner’s ‘Dinosaurs’ comment
Before Game 2 of the Padres-Cubs Wild Card Series, Feliciano was speaking with an Associated Press reporter when the Padres figurehead said, “the owner of the Dodgers owns a lot of dinosaurs.”
Given that the Dodgers feature the oldest roster in MLB, this comment was originally taken as a shot across the pond from the NL West rivals.

In the aftermath, the comment was clarified as a nod to Walter’s dinosaur fossil collection.
Dave Roberts’ response
Roberts was asked how he felt about the comment, and in typical fashion, he had some fun with it but downplayed any bitterness.
“I guess from what I heard, we have some dinosaurs,” Roberts told AM 570. “ But I like our dinosaurs, and our dinosaurs have come through in the biggest spots.”
He noted it could be used as bulletin board material down the line, but comments from anyone other than the team and players aren’t the biggest motivator.
“It could be bulletin board material, but I think at the end of the day, you’re not playing the owner,” he said. “You’re playing the 26 players on the other side.”
The Dodgers could very much lock horns with the Padres during the postseason, writing yet another chapter in their storied modern-day rivalry.

San Diego and their fans definitely get up for the Dodgers no matter what, and the postseason environment, with a three-peat on the table, elevates everything.
The Dodgers’ dinosaurs have delivered back-to-back titles and are going for their third straight starting Saturday.
