The Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t any stranger to acquiring any big names, and have the opportunity to do so at this year’s deadline with Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal potentially available.
When asked about buying at the deadline, however, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave an unexpected answer.
“I could almost argue that we’re sellers more than buyers,” Roberts said, per Dylan Hernandez of The California Post.
The Dodgers—at least over the past couple of seasons—have largely focused on supplementing their roster with lower end pieces rather than hastily adding whichever big-name player is on the market. And it’s worked.
In 2024, the Dodgers acquired starter Jack Flaherty along with Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech, both of whom played huge roles in their World Series run that year. They had a similarly solid deadline in 2025, bringing in Ben Rortvedt, a key piece down the stretch last season, and a fantastic prospect in James Tibbs III. They also acquired depth in Alex Call and Brock Stewart.
The Dodgers are yet to rule out pursuing Skubal, but if history shows anything, they could very well pass on the left-hander to bring in some support for their beleaguered roster.

Who Could the Dodgers Sell at the Trade Deadline?
The Dodgers don’t have many pieces on their All-Star roster who they could realistically sell for a solid return, but a couple of players stand out.
Starter Eric Lauer is one of those players, having revived what looked like a dead season when the Toronto Blue Jays designated him for assignment in May. He has made seven appearances with the Dodgers, posting a 3.12 ERA through 40.1 innings pitched.
The Dodgers are unlikely to keep Lauer on the team following the season, so trading him to get a solid return to reinforce other areas of the big league club or acquire prospects is an option.
Alex Call is the other player whose name comes to mind, though the Dodgers are short on corner outfield depth at the moment and could very well hold onto him. He is a solid outfield replacement for the Dodgers, posting a .690 OPS with a homer and 16 RBIs on the season.
What do you think the Dodgers should do at the deadline?
One Response
They need a catcher and maybe skubal because I don’t trust Sheehan ,Sasaki, and Glasnow because he’s always hurt
