Dave Roberts Urges Dodgers Fans to Not Think About World Series Yet as Season Just Starts

The city of Los Angeles can find reminders of the late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant everywhere.

From murals, to sneakers at the local basketball court, the memory of an L.A. legend is prominent in so many different pockets of the public. Recently, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts invoked some wisdom from the ‘Black Mamba’ when discussing the current Dodgers team.

With all the excitement of an eighth World Series victory this past October, Roberts is urging fans to not spend too much time thinking about the end goal.

“My advice would be what Kobe said: The dream is a journey. And when we’re in your living rooms every night, when you come to the ballpark — 4 million people come to the ballpark every year — enjoy the journey.

“If you’re just waiting to win a championship, and that defines the season for you and your joy, then you might want to find something else to root for, because you’re missing a lot.”

Falling in love with the process and embracing the work that goes into it is what differentiates champions from just an average competitor.

With so many moving parts already taking shape this season, it makes sense for Roberts to ensure that fans are enjoying the process as well. With millions coming to Dodger Stadium every season, it has become a culutral hub in L.A. and so much more than simply a place professional baseball is played.

The amount of regular season victories is arbitrary to the 11 October wins that this team so desperately wants, but the road to get to those 11 games is what will define this team looking to make history.

Every baseball game is unique in its own way, but at Dodger Stadium, fans can count on there always being a constant level of stardom competing. Although the team is built for October, what transpires before then is not just a crucial part of the journey, but full of defining moments for the franchise.

  1. Right Dave. In 2024, I watched 23 spring training games all the Korea games and 162 regular season contests on the way to the postseason. Some in person, most on tv. Never had so much fun and I was at game one of ‘88 for Kirk, all the Yankee Stadium games in ‘81 and two of the Bronx games in ‘24. The ugly one and the glorious one. Enjoying the ride again.
