The Los Angeles Dodgers are activating Bobby Miller from the minor leagues and optioning Kyle Hurt down to the minor leagues.
The Dodgers had Bobby Miller on the taxi squad, hovering around the Dodgers’ clubhouse in case of a roster move, with manager Dave Roberts teasing that someone from the active roster could be moved.
Now the move is clear: Hurt is the roster casualty as Miller returns for his big-league debut.
In a corresponding move, Alex Thomas is being designated for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for Miller to step into.
What will Bobby Miller’s role be on the Dodgers?
Roberts said that along with fellow bullpen member Justin Wrobleski, Miller will be called upon to pitch in bulk on Sunday, September 6th, for the series finale against the Washington Nationals.
Miller is good for 50 pitches, offering length for a team with a six-man rotation and only five starting pitchers, per the Dodgers skipper.
The former top prospect for the Dodgers was on a minor league rehab assignment after missing the bulk of the season with right shoulder soreness and a back issue.
Where has Bobby Miller been?
Miller has been working hard down in Arizona at the Dodgers complex, first dealing with the shoulder, then the back later on as a result.
In 14 innings at Triple-A, Miller has a 3.86 ERA, making seven appearances and one start. He has walked four hitters and struck out 17, allowing six runs in total and two home runs.
When he appears in the major leagues, it will be Miller’s first appearance since May 2025. He has been stuck in Triple-A since then and has been dealing with injuries.
He had a 12.6 ERA in two games last year, which led to him staying away from the majors. After his surge in the minor leagues, there is plenty of potential for Miller to turn things around, given that his stuff can still be very impressive and his command looks better this year compared to 2025 and 2024.
