Dodgers’ Alex Vesia Provides Huge Injury Update, Talks Availability for World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed reliever Alex Vesia hasn’t played since Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres.

Vesia is dealing with an intercostal strain, and was left off the NL Championship Series roster.

However, Vesia has been working to get back in time for the World Series, and threw live batting practice off the Dodger Stadium mound on Wednesday.

While his fastball velocity was down about 1 mph, he said he’s more of an adrenaline guy, per Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.

“When the lights come on Friday,” Vesia said, “I’ll be ready to go.”

As for his spot on the World Series roster, Vesia is “very confident” that he’ll be on it, per Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times.

Vesia made three scoreless appearances in the NLDS, pitching three innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out four.

During the regular season, he was one of the most relied-upon members of the Dodgers bullpen, sporting a 1.76 ERA across 67 appearances (66.1 innings pitched).

Vesia is the top lefty reliever the Dodgers have and would be a huge addition for the World Series. While his spot on the roster won’t be confirmed until Friday, it’s a great sign that he feels good enough to pitch.
