Dodgers Among 4 Contenders With Interest in Top Reliever at Trade Deadline: Report

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly one of five teams interested in Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott, and one of four top contenders reportedly trying to pursue him ahead of the trade deadline. The Dodgers, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Philadelphia Phillies, as well as the Chicago Cubs, have interest in pursuing a trade for Scott, per the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

The Dodgers, Yankees, Orioles, and Phillies are of course all top contenders for the World Series this year, and Scott is a player that could help each team get closer to that point.

Scott is in his third season with the Marlins, after beginning his career with the Baltimore Orioles. Scott was drafted by the Orioles in 2014, and eventually made his debut in 2017. Scott has grown into a role as a closer with the Marlins, even racking up 20 saves with the team in 2022.

This season, Scott has eight saves and 34 strikeouts with a 1.74 ERA. Scott has given up earned runs in only three of the games he has appeared in so far this season, and went the entire month of May without allowing an earned run. The Marlins are 18-11 when Scott plays in a game this season, despite the team only having 25 total wins on the season.
