The Los Angeles Dodgers are in for a busy offseason, and could kick off doing business with the St. Louis Cardinals for utility man Brendan Donovan.
The Dodgers had several utility players in their squad for their World Series win, such as Tommy Edman, Hyeseong Kim, Miguel Rojas and Kiké Hernandez, however with Rojas and Hernandez currently free agents, they could look for a younger improvement on both players.

Donovan made his first All-Star team in 2025, posting a .775 OPS throughout the season while batting .287. He hit 10 home runs and drove in 50 RBIs last season, marking the second season he had done so in a row. Donovan has played every position but pitcher, catcher and center fielder in his career so far, making him the perfect Swiss army knife for the Dodgers.
“Infielder Brendon Donovan, who is arbitration-eligible for two more years, is also drawing a lot of interest and seems likely to be traded,” MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand wrote. “The Yankees, Dodgers, Royals and Guardians are among the teams believed to be potential landing spots for Donovan.”
Donovan has batted well above league average in all four of his MLB seasons, and still has two years of team control. His performances in 2025 may command a higher price, but the Dodgers are more than capable of meeting the Cardinals’ needs with their deep farm system.

One of the Dodgers’ biggest needs this offseason is a replacement in left field after the free agency departure of Michael Conforto, and Donovan has been a plus fielder in left during his career. He has played the position in each of his four seasons, and has never committed an error.
Trading for Donovan would give the Dodgers a potential option in left field and would be a definite upgrade in the lineup. Should the Dodgers proceed with the trade, they would be taking a huge step in their title defense before the season evens starts.
