Dodgers Announce Game 1 and 2 Starters for NLDS
The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced their starters for Games 1 and 2 of the National League Division Series.
As expected, right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty will start Game 1 on Saturday. Right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start Game 2.
Flaherty, 28, came to the Dodgers at the trade deadline. After sporting a 2.95 ERA across 106.2 innings with the Detroit Tigers, he went 6-2 with a 3.58 ERA across 55.1 innings with the Dodgers.
Flaherty is entering October on a bit of a cold streak, having allowed 10 earned runs over his last three games (14 innings pitched).
Flaherty is likely pitching Game 1 because he should be able to give L.A. length. Flaherty has gone at least five innings in nine of his 10 starts with the Dodgers. He’s gone at least six innings four times, including a season-high 7.1 innings in early September.
As for Game 2, Yamamoto is pitching that game as he’s still working his way back from a midseason shoulder injury. Yamamoto missed nearly three months with the injury, and has made just four starts since coming off the injured list. His longest start was five innings, while his others were four innings, four innings, and three innings.
On the year, Yamamoto had a 3.00 ERA across 18 starts (90 innings pitched). Over his last four starts, he allowed six earned runs across 16 innings pitched.
