Dodgers Are Far From Done Making Moves This Offseason, Says GM

The Los Angeles Dodgers have already had an active offseason just a month after winning the 2024 World Series.

The biggest move came just before Thanksgiving, when the team signed two-time Cy Young award winner Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million deal. Just days later, the Dodgers extended NLCS MVP Tommy Edman on a five-year, $74 million deal.

Earlier this week, just before the start of the Winter Meetings, the Dodgers made two more moves. First, the team agreed to a one-year, $17 million deal with outfielder Michael Conforto. Shortly after, it was reported that right-handed reliever Blake Treinen was returning to L.A. on a two-year, $22 million deal.

While the Dodgers have already solidified some major holes on the roster, they’re far from done improving this offseason.

“We’ve made some moves that have set a real strong foundation for a successful team,” general manager Brandon Gomes said Wednesday. “Now we’ll take the next couple weeks leading up to spring training to explore what’s out there.”

He discussed the types of moves L.A. is still looking to make.

“We’ll continue to try to make moves we feel are needle-movers,” Gomes said. “Whether that’s impact moves, or depth moves, all those play into our quest to repeat.”

First and foremost, the Dodgers still need to add another outfielder before next season. Teoscar Hernández would be the most obvious option, but the two sides remain apart in contract negotiations, as Dodgers Nation reported on Thursday.

In addition to the outfield, the Dodgers could still use another starting pitcher. While Roki Sasaki is a “major priority” for the team, he won’t sign for another month when the 2025 international signing window opens on Jan. 15. Thus, the Dodgers may need to add another option in the next month before finding out Sasaki’s plans.

Finally, the Dodgers could still look to address the bullpen. One of their potential targets in former Milwaukee Brewers reliever Devin Williams is officially off the board, as he was shipped to the New York Yankees. Now, the top potential reliever the Dodgers could add is All-Star left-hander Tanner Scott, who should command a hefty contract in free agency.

While the Dodgers already have a roster capable of repeating in 2025, expect the team to continue to be very active as they look to get even better heading into next season.

  1. Started off fantastic, now, not so much. It seams very simple, sign Teoscar now! Sign H Kim now (he can play any spot in the infield except 1B better than Lux, Betts, and Muncy can. Sign Corbin B now in case you miss out on Sasaki! Repeat!

  2. I don’t believe it, the Blake Snell was a tremendous move, but the fact that they will try Mookie at shortstop again says there done. The only move that can happen is if Teo resigns, and they also said Muncy will play third. So with no range Muncy and Mookie on the left side of the field it won’t be pretty. Ground balls that should be outs will right threw.

    1. TOTALLY agree Mookie is not a shortstop and never will be at his age, after a short while of mishandling routine plays the entitled Mookie will be back to another position other than shortstop, what are the Dodgers losing it?

  3. OHTANI GAVE DODGERS MONEY TO SIGN DOMINANT PLAYERS. BUILD A DYNASTY. SO FAR A FEW OF THOSE DOMINANT PLAYERS HAVE BEEN SIGNED BY OTHER TEAMS. MEMO TO FRIEDMAN, GOMES, KASTEN – FANS DONT WANT TO HEAR “DODGERS ARE NOT DONE YET.” THEY WANT TO SEE RESULTS LIKE TANNER SCOTT, TEOSCAR, SASAKI. ARENADO WOULD BE A GREAT GET FOR 3RD BASE TO TIGHTEN UP INFIEKD DEFENSE TO REPLACE A MARGINAL PLAYER, NO- RANGE MUNCY, WHO CAN’T CARRY ARENADO’S GLOVE. NOLAN WILL REJUVENATE IN DODGER BLUE. AND WHY GIVE MICHAEL CONFORTO, ANOTHER BORDER-LINER, 17 MIL?? SNELL IS TOP SHELF-GO GET BURNES & SAY GOOD NITE!

    1. While resign. Scott, teoscar and those guys might as well go after Trout, Harper, Judge and then we can focus on starting Pitching…Skenes, Verlander and SHerzer for starters.

    2. THE LEFT HANDER FROM THE YANKEES BULLPEN WAS UNHITABLE I THINK HIS NAME IS HILL AND HE WAS SAID TO BE A FREE AGENT. WHY ISN’T ANYONE TALKING ABOUT HIM?

    3. I agree with most of your post but there are other factors to consider. For instance the clubhouse atmosphere is truly important and some of these guys may not be a good fit. You have no idea that Muncy has taken some of the role as leader in there just as .Rojas has and I’m sure in his way Kershaw also. Let them do what they do. They aren’t done means they are still trying to get deals made. You may not be thinking about this but a lot of teams do NOT want to trade with the Dodgers because it could make the Dodgers stronger and then what happens when we play these teams??? Let them do what they do.

  4. I agree with everyone’s assessment that the Dodgers need to act, not just talk about it. Moving Mookie to shortstop is ridiculous when they had the opportunity to sign Adames. Muncy over Arenado, REALLY? The Dodgers apparently have $600 million dollars available since Soto said no. Sign Teoscar, Corbin Burnes, and Tanner Scott. That would be 3 great additions to the team, with plenty of money left over.

  5. I’m like the rest of you and agree with your assessments on the Dodgers talking, but not doing anything to become the dynasty that is being bantered about. Mookie at shortstop is ridiculous, considering they could have had Adames. Muncy over Arenado . . . REALLY? We know the Dodgers have $600 million to spend, now that Soto chose the Mets. You can probably sign Teoscar, Corbin Burnes, and Tanner Scott, and still have money left over for Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buhler, and Kike Hernandez.
