The Los Angeles Dodgers lost the final game of their four-game set against the San Diego Padres, 5-2, after a troubling offensive display.
The Dodgers took the first three games of the series, scoring 19 runs over the course of them, but couldn’t seem to find their way onto the bases—especially through the first five innings. Padres starter JP Sears threw five scoreless innings against the Dodgers, holding them hitless until the fifth inning.
Starter Emmet Sheehan had a decent showing for LA, though he didn’t get the result he would have wanted. He only threw 4.1 innings, logging 96 pitches, while allowing one run on three hits and three walks. The right-hander also struck out five batters during the game.
After a quiet start to the game on both sides, the Padres made the first breakthrough in the fourth inning. The first two batters of the inning found their way on through a walk and a hit, and outfielder Jackson Merrill hit an RBI single to make the score 1-0.

The visitors broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning, when Fernando Tatis Jr. singled in the second run of the game with two runners on. Manny Machado stepped up two batters later, and extended the Padres’ lead to five with a three-run homer off of Kyle Hurt.
LA scored their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Alex Freeland and birthday boy Shohei Ohtani both registered RBI singles.
The Dodgers’ offense didn’t record a single hit for the remainder of the game after Ohtani’s single, though, as their hopes for a four-game sweep against the Friars collapsed. They still lead the NL West by 14 games despite the loss, and are in a great position to make the postseason once again.
The Dodgers jump straight back into a divisional matchup on Monday, as they begin a series against the Colorado Rockies at home beginning at 7:10 p.m. PT.

So the D’s only went 3-1 against their division rivals, the Padres, who came in, kind of in a must win situation. Which they didn’t do. 2 humiliating losses, one plain loss and one win. 14 back. They’re done for the season. Well, wild card is a longshot, but the division, naw, they’re done.
I don’t know if the Dodgers are that good, I just know the Padres aren’t that good.
