Dodgers Change Pitching Order After Rain Rescheduling

The Los Angeles Dodgers switched around their pitching order after inclement weather postponed their game Saturday.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start the first game of the Dodgers’ doubleheader on Sunday, which is the game replacing Saturday’s cancelled contest. The Dodgers originally had Sheehan starting the game, but since the entire rotation has had ample rest, Yamamoto can step right in.

The team is yet to announce who will start in the second game of the doubleheader.

Emmet Sheehan was originally set to start the second game of the series on Saturday to face Yankees left-hander and former San Diego Padre Ryan Weathers, so he could very well step in for the later game to keep the rest of the rotation on track.

How Has Yoshinobu Yamamoto Performed for the Dodgers This Season?

Yamamoto—consistent with his first two seasons in MLB—has been one of the best pitchers in MLB this season.

Across his 17 starts this season, Yamamoto has thrown 110.2 innings with 106 strikeouts. He hasn’t been quite as sharp as last season, though still ranks top 10 in the National League in ERA with a 2.85 mark.

He had a rough outing in his final start before the All-Star break, allowing six runs in six innings against the Diamondbacks, so he will be looking to bounce back with a statement showing against the Yankees.

Who is Pitching for the Yankees?

The Yankees are fielding their ace Cam Schlittler for the first game of the doubleheader.

Schlittler, the current frontrunner in midseason AL Cy Young polls, has fully broken out following an impressive postseason performance in 2025. He leads the American League with a 2.05 ERA through 118.2 innings pitched, and earned the first All-Star appearance of his career this year.

He has 137 strikeouts on the year, which ranks third in the AL behind Dylan Cease and Gavin Williams.

The right-hander has never faced the Dodgers before, and will surely be looking to perform against the best team in baseball.

The first game of the doubleheader kicks off at 9:35 a.m. PT, followed by the second game, which will begin at the regularly scheduled time of 4:20 p.m. PT.
