Dodgers Coach Has 2nd Son Drafted by Another NL Team

Los Angeles Dodgers fans are excited about the drafting of big-hitting lefty Bo Lawrance, but one Dodgers coach was likely more excited for another team’s pick.

Third base coach Dino Ebel’s son Trey Ebel, a 17-year-old out of Corona High School, went 25th overall to the Milwaukee Brewers, as reported by Jack Harris of the California Post.

Sep 16, 2025; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17) gets a high five from third base coach Dino Ebel (91) as he rounds the bases after hitting his 50th home run of the season during the eighth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium.

Interestingly, the Brewers drafted Ebel’s other son, Brady Ebel, who also came from Corona High School, with the 32nd overall pick in last year’s draft, detailed Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

How did the Ebel family celebrate both sons being drafted?

Ebel told Harris that most of the family gathered at their home for a watch party prior to Saturday night’s game, marking a “proud day” and a “proud moment for both Brady and Trey.”

“It was more emotional this year than last year, I think because you know you got both sons [drafted and in the same organization],” Ebel told Harris.

“They worked so hard to get to this point, and to have the same team, the Milwaukee Brewers, it’s just really a dream come true for me and the family.”

Brady Ebel was similarly celebratory, though he couldn’t be at the family gathering.

Now with the Class-A Wilson Warbirds in the Brewers organization, Brady Ebel watched the draft on the jumbotron.

The Brewers shared a video of Ebel learning of his brother’s drafting, with he and his teammates literally jumping for joy.

There’s a possibility, though, that family loyalty and team loyalty could be tested against each other.

It was just last year that the Brewers and Dodgers faced off in the National League Championship Series.

It’s possible that some day soon, Dino Ebel might be facing off against one or both of his sons in the other dugout in a high-stakes playoff series.

It’s something Brady Ebel addressed last season.

“Now that you say that, I’m a huge Brewers fan,” he told McCalvy ahead of last year’s All-Star Game. “You know, I’m rooting for them the rest of the season and hopefully they beat the Dodgers in the playoffs. You never know.”
