The Los Angeles Dodgers shut down the Pittsburgh Pirates in the final game of their series Sunday, beating them 4-0.
Blake Snell provided yet another statement performance on the mound, shutting down the Pirates through six innings. He struck out six batters and allowed just two hits on the afternoon. Through his three starts since returning from the injured list, Snell has allowed just two earned runs through 18 innings of work for a 1.00 ERA.
The Dodgers didn’t waste any time getting on the board in Sunday’s game, as Shohei Ohtani walked and stole second to put himself on second. Freddie Freeman singled him over to third, and Mookie Betts brought the reigning MVP home with a groundout to take the lead.
LA broke the game open three innings later, scoring two runs in the third inning Tommy Edman and Kyle Tucker both reached base with one out, and both Alek Thomas and Hunter Feduccia came through with RBI singles. Tucker broke a rough streak at Dodger Stadium in Saturday’s win, driving home the winning run, and reached base twice in Sunday’s game to follow it up.
The Dodgers’ final run of the game came in the fifth inning, as back-to-back singles set the table for Max Muncy, who brought home Freeman with a groundout.
The Pirates’ only two hits of the afternoon came off of Snell, as the bullpen completely shut them down through the final three innings of the game. Their only baserunner after Snell came out came in the ninth inning, when Alex Vesia walked Brandon Lowe.
With their sweep over Pittsburgh, the Dodgers have won their last six games and are finally looking like themselves after a few weeks of subpar baseball. They get a rare off day Monday before heading to Atlanta, where they face the Braves in a three-game series.
Tyler Glasnow will start the first game of the series, which begins Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. PT.
