Dodgers Continue Active Offseason, Add 3 Players on Minor League Deals

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had about as active an offseason as a team can possibly have. The team has shelled out over $1 billion in contracts, more than the entire rest of Major League Baseball combined.

Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto have headlined their successful offseason, but they’ve also traded for and extended Tyler Glasnow, added Manuel Margot as part of the same deal and brought back Jason Heyward and Joe Kelly.

Those are just the Major League additions, though.

The Dodgers have made a handful of minor league depth signings, per the team’s transaction log. Here are three that slipped through the cracks during this busy offseason:

Lolo Sanchez: The Dodgers added the 24-year-old outfielder on a minor league deal. Sanchez is yet to make his MLB debut, but played in Double-A in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2023. He hit .227 with an OPS of .652 in 87 games.

Jonathan Arauz: The Dodgers signed the 25-year-old infielder on a minor league deal. Arauz has played parts of four seasons in the Majors with the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets. He’s a career .184 hitter with a .561 OPS, and can play second base, third base and shortstop.

Austin Beck: The 25-year-old outfielder also joined the Dodgers on a minor league pact, and is yet to make his MLB debut. Beck reached as high as Triple-A in 2021, but played as high as Double-A in 2022. He hit .250 with a .692 OPS across the three teams in 2022. In 2023, he suffered a torn ACL in spring training and missed the entire season. He’s been with the Oakland Athletics organization his entire career.

All three players will serve as depth in the minor leagues, and will hope to impress enough to make an impact on the Major League squad at some point during the 2024 season.

  1. Dodgers need to spend the money on a releaver, and starting pitching at all cost instead of signing minor leaguers
