Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Praises Teoscar Hernández’s Clutchness: ‘He Embraces Being in Those Spots’

The Los Angeles Dodgers finished off a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, winning the game in extra innings by a score of 6-5. Outfielder Teoscar Hernández came up clutch once again for Los Angeles, knocking in the winning run.

It’s become almost a recurring theme for Hernández this season, giving the Dodgers confidence each time he is up to bat. After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts credited Hernández for his clutch gene throughout the season.

“It just looks like he embraces being in those spots… It’s hard to find a guy that you want in that spot more than Teo.

Hernández signed with the Dodgers on a one-year deal this winter and he has been worth every penny for Los Angeles. The right-hander spoke about his approach at the plate on the winning hit.

“I was just trying not to overthink it or overswing or anything like that,” Hernandez said. “Just trying to stay patient, be calm and get a good pitch and put it in play. In situations like that, with two outs, I don’t have to do a double or homer or anything like that. With a hit, we can win a ballgame, and that’s what I try to do.”

On the season, Hernández has hit .275 with 26 home runs and 79 runs batted in. He made the All-Star team with the Dodgers and has arguably been the most reliable player for the team at the plate.

With the win, the Dodgers held firm in their division lead. They will enter Monday’s action with a 3.5-game lead in the National League West, currently holding off the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Los Angeles now heads out on the road next week for a series against the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals.
