The Los Angeles Dodgers fought off an Arizona Diamondbacks comeback attempt, winning the second game of their series, 6-5.
Eric Lauer made his second start in a Dodgers uniform on Tuesday, posting 4.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs. He walked an struck out one batter while giving up five hits on the evening.
First baseman Freddie Freeman got the Dodgers off to a good start in the top of the first inning, hitting a two-run homer into right field after a Shohei Ohtani leadoff double.
Ohtani came back around in the top of the second, and scored both Dalton Rushing and Alex Freeland with a two-run triple—his second three-bagger of the season.
The Dodgers’ four-run lead shrunk to three when Lauer allowed the first of his two earned runs of the night, as Corbin Carrol hit his eighth homer of the season. The Diamondbacks also scored the next run of the game, as Ketel Marte hit a sacrifice fly following back-to-back singles from Jorge Barrosa and Tommy Troy.
LA restored its four-run lead in the seventh inning, as Andy Pages hit a sacrifice fly of his own and Mookie Betts scored Ohtani with a single to left field.
The Dodgers found themselves in trouble shortly after, though, as Arizona surged for three runs in the bottom of the same inning. Nolan Arenado hit a two run double to score Marte and Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, and Will Klein walked in a run to make the score 6-5.
Klein came back out the following inning and got through it despite allowing two hits, and Tanner Scott continued his solid season and earned a save after navigating his way through the ninth.
The Dodgers improved to 39-22 with the win, extending their lead to six games at the top of the NL West. They’ll look to take a lead in the series after the third game, during which Shohei Ohtani will make his 10th start of the season. The third game of the four-game set comes Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. PT.

Glad we scored some runs, but we were constantly in trouble and did not dominate the game as we came close to blowing a 4 run lead.
The game tonight will be interesting as Otani will pitch against a team with a winning record and that can hit. I keep waiting for Kyle Tucker to start hitting, but its not happening and so far our return on investment for him looks bad. Is he cracking under pressure, or is he simply over-rated?
