The Los Angeles Dodgers finally managed to get some runs on the board Sunday, scoring six in their win over the Detroit Tigers.
Tyler Glasnow started for the Dodgers, making his second appearance since returning from the injured list last week. The right-hander looked much more comfortable in Sunday’s game than he did in his first start back against the Atlanta Braves, lasting seven innings with six strikeouts while only allowing two hits and one earned run.
The Tigers’ offense started slow, but the Dodgers’ did as well. Neither team scored until the fourth inning, when the Dodgers broke the deadlock. Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez both singled, and a sacrifice fly from Miguel Rojas brought home the first baseman.
Detroit struck back in the bottom of the frame, though, as Gleyber Torres singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch, crossing the plate on a Kevin McGonigle single.
The Dodgers’ next breakthrough didn’t come until the sixth inning, when Hernandez continued to produce amid a run of bad form. Freeman reached base once more with a double to left field, and Hernandez crushed a ball 434 feet over the left center field wall to add two runs to the Dodgers’ tally.
Glasnow shut the Tigers down in the sixth and seventh, allowing the Dodgers to break the game open in the top of the eighth. The Dodgers loaded the bases with just one out to start the frame, and a wild pitch advanced all three players while adding a run to their tally.
Max Muncy brought home another run with a single, and yet another wild pitch scored the third run of the inning.
Kyle Hurt and Seth Halvorsen combined for two scoreless innings, winning the game and the series for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers, on the back of their series win, head home to face the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. PT, and will look to bring the offense they found in Detroit over the weekend.
