The Los Angeles Dodgers have had an offseason to remember.

The dominance the front office has displayed in retooling a roster coming off a World Series victory doesn’t just surpass previous standards, but transcends the world of baseball as a framework for professional sports franchises after they reach the highest peak.

With the Cy Young award winners, Gold Glove recipients, and Silver Sluggers that have been acquired one way or another for the 2025 title chase, some are quick to forget about the existing talent already rostered, let alone ailments they have been working through since hoisting the franchise’s eighth World Series trophy.

One name in particular who separated himself from mortal man to October legend in 2024 is Freddie Freeman. It feels almost surreal to know that he underwent ankle surgery in early December.

As the Dodgers regrouped at Camelback Ranch, Freeman was present, but still unable to run or swing a bat because of his rehab restrictions. Although still not running unassisted, the 35-year-old revealed to reporters he broke one of his ankle rehab rules.

“I wasn’t supposed to swing today, but I swung,” Freeman said. “I couldn’t help myself.”

The postseason hero also discussed his plan to be ready for the season opener in Tokyo, Japan on March. 18.

“I am perfectly on track for that,” Freeman said. “We’ll get a better sense when I’m not in an inflated bubble helping me run, but probably middle of next week by the end of the next week I’ll have a really good sense of how I’m feeling.”

The inflated bubble is referring to a boost treadmill which de-loads body weight allowing Freeman to still run on a soon-to-be healed ankle.

Opening Day wasn’t Freeman’s only goal, however, as he revealed another task he hoped to check off his 2025 list that hasn’t been done since 2023.

“The goal is 162 (games),” he said. “Hopefully it’s 161 because I always take the game off after we win the division. … I’m doing everything I can to make sure I’m ready for 162.”

Freeman hopes to have a complete regular season, but fans know that he will be eyeing the 11 wins required in October as L.A. looks to become baseball’s first repeat champions in a quarter-century.
