Dodgers: Joe Kelly Feels Fans Still Hold a Grudge Over the Astros

The Astros will forever be labeled as the team who cheated to win the World Series, and rightfully so. The Dodgers were on the losing end of the cheating scandal in 2017 and Dodgers fans won’t be forgetting the pain endured anytime soon, but who can blame them?

The Astros once again find themselves in the World Series and have remained a dominant team since the scandal. However, former Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly believes fans still hold a grudge over the Astros although many new faces have joined the team since then (via Ryan Gilbert, 94 WIP Sports Radio).

“I think so. I would say so, yeah,” Kelly said of people still holding a grudge against the Astros. “They’re going to have a completely different team here in a couple of years. It’s one of those things that it’s tarnished for life. It’s tough.”

Nobody likes losing, but everyone hates a cheater even more. To take out the integrity of the game is a low blow fans won’t soon forgive and surely will never forget.

The Astros dug themselves a hole they can’t get out of and likely won’t be out for years to come.

“Let’s just say the Astros end up winning the World Series this year, and obviously, no cheating involved, they’re great baseball players. People still aren’t going to give them credit for it, which sucks if I was a player on that team, but I mean it is what it is and you reap what you sow kind of thing,” Kelly said. “It’s going to be intriguing to see the reaction if they do, but it’s going to be a great World Series overall.”

As the hype continues to build, it looks to be turning into a great series. However, we don’t have to think very hard to learn who most Dodgers fans will be rooting for in this World Series.

  1. Manfred should have stripped them of the title and suspended some players. Part of the ongoing resentment and hatred is because there were no repercussions for their actions. I am not advocating awarding the trophy to the Dodgers. Just declare no winner to the 2017 WS.

  2. It’s not realistic to expect MLB (baseball owners and their pet mascot Manfred Mann) to do the right thing. That would encompass integrity and responsibility. Ain’t gonna happen.

  3. Agree with Joe Kelly. This isn’t over because players were not punished by idiot Manfred & MLB. The Astros cheated in an unprecedented way and got away with it.
