The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting closer to clinching the National League West as their magic number drops to seven.
The Dodgers got a 3-2 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, September 8th, marking the sixth straight win for LA.
Heading into Tuesday, the Dodgers were eight games from clinching the division, though they only claimed one game since the second-place squad in the NL West, the Arizona Diamondbacks, won 5-3 against Kansas City.
To clinch a spot in the postseason, the Dodgers are six games away, making it all but a certainty that Los Angeles will get the chance to defend their World Series crown.
The Dodgers won nine straight NL West titles from 2013-2021, and since then, they have won the crown every season except 2023.
Now, the Dodgers are on the verge of making it 13 of 14 NL West titles.
Where do the Dodgers sit in the standings?
The Dodgers are down 1.5 games from the Milwaukee Brewers for the top spot in the National League after Tuesday’s games.
They currently sit in second place, three games up on the Atlanta Braves, who hold the tiebreaker over the Dodgers.
The Brewers got an electric walk-off over the Chicago Cubs, which saved them from falling less than a game ahead of the Dodgers.
The Dodgers got the win thanks to Tarik Skubal, who used his high leg kick to deliver 7.1 innings and allow just two runs.
The bullpen then came in and cleaned things up, closing out a win after the offense did just enough.

They’re winning again, but I for one have no confidence. Oh, they’ll make the postseason, but I’m more hopeful than optimistic about how far they’ll go. They don’t even seem like the same team they were in May and June. Scott has been OK, but no better as a closer, leagues better than last year I admit, but not exactly lights out. Roberts doesn’t seem to trust Vesia, and the options go down from there. Some of the starters are doing ok, but the team isn’t hitting.
Yeah, the roster is filled with all stars, but IMO they’re not playing like it. Every night I see the score, who’s pitching and I’m nervous. Yeah, they’re in first place in their division, 2nd best record in Baseball and I’ve got no confidence. I dunno, I just know I’m still rooting for them.
