Dodgers Make Roster Move, Add Ex-Dodger Pitcher Off Waivers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are bringing back an old friend to the organization.

On Friday, the team claimed right-handed pitcher Nick Nastrini off waivers from the Miami Marlins. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Noah Davis was designated for assignment.

Nastrini, 25, was a former top prospect in the Dodgers organization. He was dealt to the Chicago White Sox at the 2023 trade deadline in the deal that brought right-handed pitchers Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn to Los Angeles.

Nastrini made his MLB debut with Chicago in 2024 but struggled mightily, allowing a 7.07 ERA over 35.2 innings pitched. He began the 2025 season in Triple-A where he hasn’t been any better, sporting an ERA of 8.35 across the White Sox and Miami Marlins affiliates.

The Marlins claimed Nastrini off waivers in early July, and he made one appearance for the team’s Triple-A affiliate. He was then designated for assignment by Miami on Wednesday, and the Dodgers have now decided to give him an opportunity.

As for Davis, the 28-year-old struggled in Los Angeles, sporting a 19.50 ERA over six innings of work. A majority of that damage came in his most recent appearance, when he allowed 10 earned runs over 1.1 innings of work against the Houston Astros — a game in which third baseman Max Muncy believes Houston knew what pitches were coming as LA appeared to be tipping.

  1. I’ve never been a Max Muncy supporter but after he went on the IL and the Dodgers have not won a game since, I think it is obvious that Max is the Universal Most Valuable Player !!!!!!!!!!

  2. After this pitcher has made 2 stops on two different teams with a high ERA I feel he is not the same pitcher as before when he was with the Dodgers and I feel he is not a good select for the 40 man roster. Just my opinion. I am still a big Ryan Ward fan. He is leading the PCL in home runs and RBI’s and he can’t even get a cup of coffee at Dodger Stadium. I am so angry Outman is on the team but Ward performed better than him. Bring up Ward and send Outman back to AAA and put Ward on the 40 man roster or trade him at the deadline. So stupid to see this kid producing in AAA and to see the Dodgers lose 7 straight games and do nothing with this kid. Big mistake.
