Dodgers News: Dodger Pride Award Winners Announced For June

Los Angeles Dodgers’ general manager Ned Coletti created the Dodger Pride Award in 2008 as a measure to honor the players at each level in their farm system for their contributions. The award winners for the month of June were announced on Thursday.

Each month, the top players from each of the levels of the Dodger farm system are honored and culminates in the Branch Rickey award at the end of the season.

Los Angeles – The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced the June winners of the Dodger Pride Awards. The Dodger Pride Awards were created in 2008 by general manager Ned Colletti, and are given on a monthly basis to the players at each level of the club’s Minor League system who play the game with a hustling, smart, aggressive style. The players and staff on each respective club vote for the awards.

The winners for June are as follows:

Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes

Pitcher – RHP Carlos Frias is ranked ninth in the Pacific Coast League with a 3.09 ERA in the month of June and also ranked 13th in strikeouts. The pitcher from the Dominican Republic was also named the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on June 23. The 24-year old signed with the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent.

Player – INF Clint Robinson put together a strong campaign for the month of June. Robinson totaled in six homers, five doubles, and 21 RBIs while obtaining the fourth highest slugging percentage in the PCL. Robinson made a name for himself at the Major Leagues with a game-winning RBI against the Cleveland Indians. Robinson was drafted by the Royals in the 25th round of the First-Year Player Draft in 2007.

Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts

Pitcher – RHP Andres Santiago allowed a mere five earned runs in 20.2 innings of work for the month of June. Santiago ranked third in the Southern League for opponent’s batting average and with a 2.18 ERA, ranked fifth in the league. Santiago was selected in the 16th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft by the Dodgers.

Player – INF Daniel Mayora posted a .350 batting average in 26 June games, which ranked seventh in the Southern League. Mayora has been a dependable hitter for the Lookouts with a .307 batting average with runners on base. Mayora was originally selected by the Rockies in 2003 as a non-drafted free agent.

Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes

Pitcher – LHP Dan Coulombe went a perfect 3-for-3 in save opportunities in June, allowing one run in nine appearances. The 24-year-old posted a 0.97 ERA while striking out 16 and holding opposing batters to a .111 average. Coulombe was drafted in the 25th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.

Player – OF Aaron Miller led the California League in triples, was fifth in slugging percentage, eighth in RBIs, and 11th in home runs for the month of June. Miller was named the California League Player of the Week for the first week of eligibility in June and was selected in the first round in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Single-A Great Lakes Loons

Pitcher – RHP Victor Araujo went on a period from June 10-27 where he held a 1.45 ERA with 12.2 consecutive scoreless innings. Araujo went 2-0 and a perfect 2-for-2 in save opportunities. Araujo was signed as a free agent by the Dodgers in 2009.

Player – INF Jesmuel Valentin has played strongly with a .321 batting average for the Loons and has compiled three four-hit games for the month of June. The 20-year-old was selected by Los Angeles in the first round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
