Dodgers News: Joe Musgrove Takes A Shot at Justin Turner in Postgame

What a night for Justin Turner on Thursday. After an incredibly rough start to the year, JT came up big for the Dodgers against the Padres. That included 2 BIG homeruns, one to tie the game and one to put them ahead for good. Talk about clutch.

It was JT’s first two and only two homeruns in the month of June. Those runs batted in also represented 3 of his 11 total for the month. So saying that he needed a game like that is a huge understatement, But the Dodgers’ third baseman has made a living out of doing the best things in the biggest moments.

But that game did not come without its controversy. In his postgame comments, Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove seemed to downplay Turner’s impact on the game, even saying that he didn’t view him as much of a threat in this Dodgers lineup.

“When he’s in the box, I don’t feel like he’s a huge threat. He’s a good hitter, he’s done a lot of damage to teams I’ve been on in the past. But out of all of the guys in the lineup, I didn’t feel like he was a huge threat. I just didn’t execute pitches very well and he put some good swings on it.”

Just to clarify, JT has not hit well against Musgrove in the past. But he’s now a combined 5-for-12 in his career against Joe after going 3-for-3 against him on Thursday night. Not bad for a guy that Musgrove did not consider a threat for the Dodgers.

The jokes on him though. The Dodgers handed Musgrove his second loss of the year, even if he did punch out 10 batters and issue just 1 walk in the process. The 2 NL West teams will get back at it tonight with Tony Gonsolin taking on Blake Snell.
