Dodgers News: LA Hires Former Pitcher Chris Archer as Special Assistant to Baseball Operations

Well, the Dodgers have brought in some starting pitching help…kind of. The team has hired former All-Star pitcher Chris Archer to become a special assistant within the baseball operations side of the organization.

Archer hadn’t officially retired from the game of baseball but now joins the Dodgers in what will be a front-office role. He brings years of experience around the game to the table, and LA likely values his insight into how they evaluate players.

The former pitcher spent 10 years in the big leagues, making two All-Star teams in the process. He has a career ERA of 3.93 and was one of the better arms in the league for a few seasons in the mid-2010s.

He spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, so Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is very familiar with him. Archer also was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins during his playing days.

This comes after the Dodgers brought in former slugger Nelson Cruz to be an adviser, so it seems that LA wants to have more player involvement within their team. Both Cruz and Archer have plenty of experience during their time in the league, and they may be able to see some things that others may not.

We want to welcome Chris to the Dodgers organization and wish him good luck in his new role!
