Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Returns Home to Give His Father A Dream Gift

In a new episode of Secret Celebrity Renovation, Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts got the chance to fulfill a long awaited dream.

The eight-time MLB All-Star has begged his father for years to allow him to renovate his childhood home. After a long stretch of rejection, Betts’ father, Willy Betts, finally agreed to let him take on the project. The episode airs Friday night on CBS and Paramont+.

Betts worked alongside Rob Mariano and Sabrina Soto to renovate his childhood home in Nashville, Tennessee. Despite lacking experience in home renovation, Betts’ six-time Silver Slugger abilities transcended baseball.

“When Mookie Betts asked us to Nashville to help his father with the renovation, I had a feeling that his All-Star hitting skills would come in handy,” Mariano says. “And I got to tell you, they definitely did with the demolition.”

Upgrading the furniture, appliances, and more, Betts and the crew created a home that would suit all of Willy’s needs. With the help of his mother, Diana Benedict, the pair made design decisions that his father would love. Although his parents have separated, the two remain best friends with a shared love of Mookie.

Arguably the most important decorations in Willy’s home was his surplus of Mookie memorabilia. He even kept Betts’ first ever baseball glove, featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Michelangelo. Ranging from MLB bobbleheads to childhood trophies, the crew figured out a way to display the prized possessions.

In between renovation tasks, Betts visited multiple key figures in his childhood. He started with the John Overton High School baseball coach, Mike Morrison.

Morrison and Betts reminisce about Betts’ high school days, including how he missed baseball practices while simultaneously playing basketball but still kept a spot in the starting lineup.

Betts also reunited with childhood friends Andrew, Cam, and Brandon, who he still keeps in touch with today. The quartet laughed at an old story of Willy hyping himself up for delivering an impressively long prayer before dinner.

Two weeks after taking on the project, Betts and the crew revealed the finished product to Willy. Joined by his childhood friends, wife, and mother, Betts and his father shared an emotional moment.
