Dodgers News: Padres Probable Starters Announced For NLDS Matchup

The Padres announced the probable starters for Games 1 and 2 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium this weekend.

Dylan Cease and Yu Darvish are the expected front-line starters for San Diego. Cease and Darvish will go head-to-head with Jack Flaherty and Yoshinobu Yamamoto at Chavez Ravine.

Both the Dodgers and Padres plan to utilize right-handers for the first two games of the NLDS.

Cease posted a 3.47 ERA this season. He has a 14-11 record through 33 starts.

“I feel like if mechanically I’m in a good spot and mentally prepared and know what pitches I need to execute and where, then it doesn’t really matter when I pitch,” Cease told reporters Thursday. “Coming to an organization that has such a high commitment to winning and trying to get to the World Series and win the World Series, it was very refreshing.”

Cease formerly played for the Chicago White Sox. The club’s lowly season earned Chicago a record-breaking worst season in baseball. The right-hander was able to escape the White Sox at the tail end of Spring Training.

Cease joined the Padres just a few days before the season opener in Seoul, Korea. The right-hander joined Darvish, Joe Musgrove, and Michael King in the Padres starting rotation.

Darvish is slated to be the Game 2 starter for San Diego. He missed a chunk of the season because of a groin injury and a family emergency.

The 38-year-old right-hander has a 7-3 record with a 3.31 ERA in 16 starts this season. Darvish has plenty of experience pitching at Dodger Stadium as he was a member of the Dodgers in 2017.

The memories of Darvish during his stint with the Dodgers are rather painful for most fans. The memory that usually sticks is Darvish getting rocked in Games 3 and 7 of the World Series against the Houston Astros.

Darvish received a ton of heat for his performance at Minute Maid Park, but it was later revealed that the Astros were using technology to steal the Dodgers’ signs.

The former Dodger has proven that he is still effective, but the Dodgers lineup will have to do their best to get the bats going against Darvish.

Cease and Darvish are two solid starters for the Padres and the Los Angeles lineup has a big task ahead of them.

  1. It bugs the hell out of me that “fans”, other baseball teams, and even the MLB network refer to the Astros winning the 2017 World Championship. THEY DID NOT. They cheated, they ADMITTED it, some management was penalized and fired for it. They “won” nothing.

My biggest annoyance is that Rob Manfred didn’t vacate the Championship, the AL pennant, disallow financial shares, rings, etc. Then he refers to the championship trophy as “a piece of metal.” What a lousy excuse of a Commissioner. He obviously does not care about the integrity of the game at all.
